Today I’ll be a cheetah.
When running and hiding were games.
When break time meant getting a juice box.
When bubble gum was awe inspiring
and bubble wrap was the most entertaining thing in the room.
Today I’ll be a cowboy.
When it didn’t matter what anyone looked like.
When it didn’t matter what anyone’s politics were.
When it didn’t matter what anyone did for a living,
only what they wanted to be when they grew up.
Today I’ll be a wizard.
When the entire world was at your fingertips.
When there was no such thing as alarm clocks.
When there was no such thing as time sheets.
Or bosses. Or taxes.
Today I’ll be invisible.
When there was no such thing as pollution.
When there was no such thing as hatred.
When there was no such thing as war,
unless we were playing pretend, taking periodic breaks for lemonade.
Today I’ll be a movie star.
